Sheriff’s deputy arrested for misuse of Flock surveillance cameras

The Habersham County Sheriff's Office in Georgia announced the termination and arrest of Deputy Christian Brewer following an internal audit of Flock camera system access. An internal investigation found that Brewer accessed license plate data retained by the Flock system for personal purposes unrelated to law enforcement, involving an individual with whom he had a personal relationship. The Sheriff's Office characterized the incident as isolated.

Brewer was arrested and booked into the Habersham County Detention Center on charges of felony violation of oath of office and two counts of misdemeanor misuse of license plate data. His employment with the agency was terminated following the discovery. Brewer had been employed by the Sheriff's Office since May 6, 2024. The investigation remains active, with the case file to be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review and potential prosecution.

Sheriff Robin Krockum issued a statement emphasizing the importance of public trust and accountability, noting that misuse of authority or agency tools constitutes a betrayal of that trust. Krockum stated that misconduct would not be tolerated and that the office would hold its own accountable. Krockum also reiterated that the Flock system has been used by the Sheriff's Office to locate missing children and adults and to recover stolen vehicles, and characterized it as continuing to be a valuable law enforcement tool despite this incident.
